Safari Pricing Explained

Two people can describe "a Tanzania safari" and mean two completely different price points — a camping trip through Nyerere for $150 a day, or a private fly-in safari through the Serengeti for $900 a day. The parks are the same; what changes is the vehicle (shared vs. private), the accommodation (camping vs. tented camp vs. lodge), and how you move between parks (road transfer vs. light-aircraft flights).

Park fees are fixed by the government and non-negotiable regardless of who you book with — so most of the price difference between operators comes down to vehicle, guide and accommodation quality, not the parks themselves.

Budget

$150–$250 / day

Shared 4x4 vehicles, camping or basic guesthouses, and a smaller set of parks (typically Nyerere, Mikumi or Tarangire). A great way to see real wildlife without the luxury price tag.

Mid-Range

$300–$500 / day

Private vehicle and guide, comfortable tented camps or 3–4 star lodges, and access to the full Northern or Southern Circuit. This is where most first-time safari travellers land.

Luxury

$700+ / day

Premium tented camps or lodges, private guiding, and often light-aircraft transfers between parks instead of long road drives — trading travel time for comfort.
