Bush To Beach

Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar Beach Holiday

The classic Tanzania trip: a few days chasing wildlife across the Serengeti, Ngorongoro or Nyerere, then a flight to Zanzibar to unwind on the beach. Here's how to plan it.

8–13 days total One short internal flight
WHY COMBINE THE TWO

Wildlife By Day, Ocean By Sunset

Tanzania is one of the very few countries where a world-class safari and a genuine white-sand beach holiday sit inside the same trip, connected by a single one-hour flight. Most of our guests spend the first half of their holiday on safari — tracking the Great Migration in the Serengeti, descending into Ngorongoro Crater, or exploring the river systems of Nyerere National Park — then fly out to Zanzibar or Mafia Island to decompress.

No wasted travel days: flights from the northern safari circuit and Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar take under an hour, so almost your entire trip is spent either on game drives or on the beach — not in transit.
PLANNING THE SPLIT

How Many Days Should Be Safari, and How Many Beach?

8–9 Days

Short Taste of Both

4 days safari (typically Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti) plus 3–4 nights in Zanzibar. A good fit for a shorter holiday allowance without cutting either side too thin.

10–13 Days

The Classic Balance

5–7 days on safari across two or three parks, then 5 nights on the coast. This is the most popular split among our guests — enough time in the bush to see real diversity, and a proper beach recovery afterwards.

14+ Days

The Full Circuit

For honeymoons and once-in-a-lifetime trips: the full Northern or Southern Circuit, plus island-hopping between Zanzibar, Pemba or Mafia for a mix of culture, diving and pure relaxation.

THE SAFARI HALF

Which Parks to Fly Out From

Most bush-to-beach trips run through the Northern Circuit, since it connects easily to both Arusha and coastal flights.

  • Serengeti & Ngorongoro: the classic pairing — big-cat country and the Great Migration.
  • Tarangire: a shorter add-on known for elephants and baobabs, easy to fit before flying to the coast.
  • Nyerere & Ruaha: the quieter Southern Circuit alternative, usually paired with Zanzibar or Mafia via Dar es Salaam.

Choosing Your Island

Each island has a different personality — pick based on what you want to do after the safari dust settles.

  • Zanzibar: the most developed, with Stone Town culture, the widest choice of resorts and the easiest flight connections.
  • Mafia Island: quieter and diving-focused, with a marine park known for seasonal whale sharks.
  • Pemba: the most remote and untouched, best for travellers who want total seclusion.
